“So Much For Forever”

I gave you three years
of my love and devotion
unconditional and true
not one cell of my being
did not love you, did not speak it
through my words, as words
were all I had to convey
myself to you
and every single word
was from the heart
and for you and you alone

and what did I get from you?

silence

dead silence
which at first I understood
at least I convinced
myself to, anyway, saying
it was for the better good,
and temporary

little did I know
you were playing me for a fool
all along, apparently
with no thoughts or intentions
of a future with me ever

so much for “forever”
